  • Arsenal are among the teams looking to do a deal for Julian Alvarez.
  • The Gunners face competition from fellow London side Chelsea.
  • Reports have now revealed how much the Argentine will cost this summer.

Arsenal have Atletico Madrid frontman Julian Alvarez at the top of the summer transfer list when it comes to attacking reinforcements and The Mirror have now reported how much the Spanish side expect from his sale.

Although Arsenal are sitting pretty at the top of the 2025/26 Premier League table (seven points ahead of Manchester City), things are not all rosy.

Defensively they are excellent, but there are concerns over their lack of attacking prowess – as evidenced in their 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League – and it’ll need to be addressed this summer.

One player on their radar as they look to add more firepower to their expensively-assembled squad is Alvarez, formerly of City but now of Atletico. But what price are Diego Simeone and Co holding out for?

Julian Alvarez’s asking price amid Arsenal interest

Not only are Arsenal among those who admire the sharp-shooting 26-year-old but Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea have also been credited with an interest as we edge closer to the summer transfer window swinging open.

As things stand, Alvarez has north of four years to run on his Wanda Metropolitano contract but reports suggest that a deal could be struck.

In terms of how much it would take a would-be buyer to cough up, reports have suggested that Alvarez is valued at around the £129 million mark by the club in the Spanish capital.

It is believed that any offer needs to exceed the reported £86 million price tag.

Back in 2024, with Alvarez struggling for game time in England, Atletico swooped in and shelled out £82 million for his capable goal-getting services – but could a return to the Premier League be on the cards?

He’d certainly raise the ceiling on the north Londoners, who signed Viktor Gyokeres for big money last summer. Gabriel Jesus, however, could be on his way out of the door – which would free up space.

Fabrizio Romano issues update on Alvarez’s future at Atletico

Much has been made of what the future holds for Alvarez, who has plundered 16 goals and seven assists in 41 outings this term, as he recently came out and remained coy when speaking about the next steps of his career.

“I don’t know, I don’t know, but maybe yes, maybe no. You never know,” he said in response to being asked about his future.

Reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano later followed up on the striker’s cryptic answer and claimed that ‘things could happen’ in the summer if clubs do come to the table with a mountainous offer.

“He also made clear that he is very happy at Atletico Madrid and focused on competing,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “But the feeling is that things could happen in the summer transfer window.”

Alvarez to Arsenal could be the transfer of the summer

It hasn’t happened yet, of course, but Alvarez moving to Arsenal would be as big a step in the right direction as possible – and that’s especially after Gyokeres has failed to pull up trees in the Premier League.

The Gunners have long needed a striker that can score goals, provide a floating link between teammates all while creating chances for himself and others.

Step forward… Alvarez.

For a centre-forward, his profile is ever-so well-rounded (his only notable deficiency is aerial prowess) and he and Kai Havertz would be a fantastic duo up top.

Not afraid to do the dirty work either, Alvarez is in the top 1% of forwards for defensive actions – perhaps thanks to the guidance of Simeone and Pep Guardiola – and that would also benefit Arteta.
