Arsenal face Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, looking to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to ten points before Manchester City visit West Ham United.
Mikel Arteta’s side were held in Germany by Bayern Leverkusen on Wednesday night in the Champions League, in a performance that will concern the Spaniard. Kai Havertz’s late penalty salvaged a draw for the Gunners, keeping the tie close heading into the second leg, although Arteta will be keen on conducting a thorough review of what went wrong at the BayArena.
Meanwhile, Everton have spent the last ten days preparing for this clash in N5, with David Moyes’ team not playing since they comfortably beat Burnley at the Hill Dickinson Stadium last Tuesday. The Scotsman’s outfit have genuine hopes of qualifying for Europe, as they sit just a point behind seventh-placed Brentford.
Arteta could have Leandro Trossard back for this encounter, although the Spaniard is unlikely to have captain Martin Odegaard at his disposal, as the Norwegian continues to fight his way back from a knee injury. Mikel Merino remains on the sidelines with a foot problem, while Ben White and Kai Havertz are now fully fit and back in the fold.
Despite Everton’s rest and their recent positive form, Arsenal should have far too much for the Toffees on Saturday afternoon.
