Arsenal monitoring move for Tino Livramento as potential summer addition

Arsenal, ahead of the summer transfer window, are keen admirers of Newcastle United and England right-back Tino Livramento, according to a report from The Telegraph.

At present, the Gunners have both Ben White and Jurrien Timber as options in the right-back position – but it’s clear that Mikel Arteta and his entourage are keen to strengthen their roster further.

Since Timber’s arrival, White has struggled to work his way back into contention and he is among the eight players who could be sold as Arsenal are required to balance the books.

Arsenal eyeing move for Livramento in summer of 2026

Entering the summer, Livramento will have just two years remaining on his St James’ Park contract and – at the time of writing – has made no inroads in putting pen to paper on a new deal.

As a result, his position at Newcastle is no longer secure and Mikel Arteta and his entourage are ‘keeping a close watch’ on the defender.

Livramento, previously on the books of Chelsea, has emerged as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League ever since moving to Newcastle.

What’s more, the youngster shares the same agent as Arsenal’s Arteta – and that could make a transfer from Newcastle to north London simpler.

In terms of Newcastle’s position, they would ideally like to keep the 23-year-old in their grasp beyond the summer months if he is willing to enter negotiations over a new deal.

They, however, recognise that what teams would be willing to pay could drop if he does not extend his deal. Contract talks between his representatives and the Magpies are reportedly on hold.

Arsenal’s reported interest is only going to complicate manners. Playing under Arteta, the mastermind behind a team who are still fighting on all fronts, is an attractive prospect – as is winning trophies.

Livramento remains happy at Newcastle

That said, the report has also added that Tino Livramento – who made a name for himself during his two-year spell at Southampton – remains happy in Tyneside, which could complicate a potential transfer.

Manchester City are another team who have been linked with a move for the former Cobham prospect – but The Telegraph claims Etihad figures have played down a potential summer transfer.

Should Newcastle agree to parting ways with one of their most valuable players, it would cost would-be buyers – Arsenal included – a pretty penny of course.

The report states that they’d be looking to raise £60 million from his departure. That’s because of his versatility (he can play on both sides of a back four) and how much they initially invested in his services.

Why Arteta would want Livramento

Well, other than being one of the brightest defenders in the division, it’s Livramento’s versatility that stands him above the rest. He is comfortable receiving the ball in tight central pockets and could easily play the inverted right-back role for the Gunners.

A great carrier of the ball, too, Livramento is often seen flying up the flanks to get involved in his team’s attacking play.

His baseline level of athleticism would allow him to cover ground (just like he does under Eddie Howe) and that, coupled with his defensively reliability, is exactly why Arteta and his staff are keeping tabs on him.
