Arsenal set to complete permanent Piero Hincapié as Fabrizio Romano confirms £45m agreement

Arsenal will complete the permanent Piero Hincapié Arsenal transfer in June after structuring the deal as an initial loan.

The defender joined Mikel Arteta’s squad during the season as the club strengthened its defensive depth. His arrival added versatility across the back line and reinforced Arsenal’s long term planning in defence.

Now new details have emerged explaining why the deal was originally structured as a loan rather than an immediate permanent transfer.

Arsenal structured deal around financial rules

Reports indicate the agreement with Bayer Leverkusen was always intended to become permanent.

The initial loan structure allowed Arsenal to manage Financial Fair Play considerations before completing the full transfer later.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the move will be finalised in June with the club activating the permanent transfer clause.

Piero Hincapié Arsenal transfer fee revealed

The Piero Hincapié Arsenal transfer will cost €52 million plus a 10 percent sell on clause.

That structure mirrors a previous deal Arsenal used when signing goalkeeper David Raya, which also began as a loan before becoming permanent.

Hincapié’s ability to operate at centre back and left back gives Arteta another tactical option in defence.

Hincapié strengthens Arsenal’s defensive options

The Ecuador international has developed into one of the most highly rated defenders in European football in recent seasons.

His pace, composure on the ball and ability to defend aggressively make him well suited to Arsenal’s high defensive line.

Arteta has prioritised defenders comfortable in possession, and Hincapié fits that profile perfectly.

Arsenal continuing long term squad building

Arsenal’s recruitment strategy in recent years has focused on signing players entering their prime years.

Arsenal have already used similar structures in recent deals, including when Arsenal made history by starting two 16 year olds under Mikel Arteta.

The club have targeted technically strong players capable of adapting to Arteta’s positional system.

Completing the permanent signing of Hincapié would represent another significant step in that long term project.
