Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has reportedly signed a new five-year contract, which will see him become the club’s highest-earner.
Saka has been a breath of fresh air since he made the jump from academy to senior football in north London and is set to etch his name in the history books in the coming future.
Other than being a local lad, Saka has endeared himself to the supporters like no one else but the Gunners winger was running the risk of leaving on a free transfer.
That’s because his last deal was set to expire in the summer of 2027. Talks had been ongoing over him extending his stay at his boyhood club and now a report has stated that a deal has been struck.
Saka signs new deal at Arsenal, becomes club’s highest-earning player
According to a report from Sami Mokbel of BBC Sport, the Englishman has penned a further five years on his deal at the Emirates Stadium, which’ll be a delight for fans.
Saka last signed on fresh terms back in 2023 – but the England winger will now be on the books of the Gunners until 2031 after the latest news, all while earning in excess of £300,000 a week.
Discussions over a new deal have been ongoing for over a year and it was reported that Saka, who graduated from the club’s Hale End academy, had verbally agreed terms in January.
He’s been a key member of the Arsenal first team since making his debut under Unai Emery as a fresh-faced teenager.
Such news of him signing on the dotted line is a major boost for Mikel Arteta and his side’s aspirations this season. They are, at the timing, battling on all fronts to earn silverware.
So far this term, Saka – born and raised in Ealing, London – has scored seven goals in 33 appearances.
All in all, the 24-year-old has notched 77 strikes and an additional 78 assists in 296 senior outings. It’s the tangible aspects of his game, however, that make him so invaluable to Arteta and his teammates.
Can Saka buoy Arsenal to Premier League glory this term?
Given the winger’s ability to produce the goods, there has been plenty of hope placed on his shoulders as the Gunners look to end their long-standing trophy drought under Arteta.
Viktor Gyokeres has struggled to hit the ground running since arriving from Sporting CP in the summer and Martin Odegaard, despite being captain, has often flattered to deceive.
All eyes are on Saka, who Jamie Carragher believes has underperformed this season, to take things up a notch if Arsenal are to keep their spot at the top of the Premier League table.
Up next for the table-toppers, they take a trip to Molineux to face basement boys Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League (February 18) before travelling to across north London to Tottenham Hotspur.
