The agent of Napoli forward Dries Mertens, who has previously been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham, has opened the door to a future Premier League move for his client.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Federico Pastorello claims the player is interested in the idea of playing in England.
If I think about a good opportunity in the market, it would be Mertens from Napoli. He is out of contract [in the summer].
He is an amazing player. I think he will be soon the best scorer in the history of the club. He has proven himself in the Champions League because he scored in that competition and the national team. I think a player like that, out of contract is an amazing opportunity, even maybe for January.
Every player really wants to play in the Premier League at least once. So I think he would be very happy to play in the Premier League. I know him very well tactically and technically and I think he can be a successful player for the Premier League
Mertens is out of contract at Napoli in the summer and is expected to move on in either January or at the end of the season.
Arsenal and Tottenham have previously been touted as potential destinations for the Belgian forward – while Man United were once also thought to be admirers.

This gives the impression that Pastorello is doing his best to get Mertens a move in January.
If Arsenal could get a free transfer over the line for Mertens, it may not be the worst deal for them in the short term.
They would be getting themselves a quality, versatile attacker who adds Champions League experience to the squad for little to no cost.
If they were going to be paying to get the player in the January window, it’s probably not the area that they need to think about strengthening in the immediate future.
Positions in midfield and defence are arguably more pressing matters for Arsenal to resolve during the January window.
