Deeney to receive injections in order to make Arsenal clash

Troy Deeney has revealed that he will need an injection in the ankle if he wants to play against Arsenal this weekend.

The Watford striker will miss his side’s Carabao Cup encounter with Spurs on Wednesday evening, as he focuses on a return in time for Saturday’s trip to face Arsenal.

A heavy challenge from Fulham’s Timothy Fosu-Mensah during last weekend’s 1-1 draw saw the ligaments in Deeney’s ankle sustain damage.

Deeney famously called out the Arsenal side last season after Watford defeated the Gunners 2-1 at Vicarage Road, claiming on BT Sport after the match that Arsenal lacked “cojones”.

In a press conference, (quoted by the Evening Standard), the Hornets skipper said:

I have to have another injection, this time in the ankle, for the weekend so I’ll be ready for Arsenal. There’s a bit of ligament damage in there [but] nothing a few injections can’t help. It’s going to take more than that to stop me playing against Arsenal.

Deeney also claimed he had been playing with broken toes since a 2-1 win against Crystal Palace last month:

One toe has healed but two are broken. I’ve had injections. One of the younger players did it on the Friday before the game. He was trying to impress and get himself in the team. It wasn’t much, but he stood on my toes.
