Uruguay manager Fabian Coito has claimed he substituted Lucas Torreira as a safeguarding measure during his team’s win against Mexico on Friday.
The midfielder had started the match in a central role, but was pulled at half time for Christian Stuani, with Torreira then spotted on the sideline in the second half with an ice pack attached to his leg.

The Metro report Coito as saying:
I took Torreira out as a precaution.
Reportedly suffering from a tight calf, the lack of severity may mean that Torreira is in line to make his first Gunners start on Saturday as Arsenal make the trip to Newcastle.
The Uruguayan joined the North Londoners from Sampdoria this summer for a fee in the region of £26 million, and new boss Unai Emery has not rushed his new box-to-box man into the lineup.
Arsenal fans will also be keeping an eye on shot-stopper Bernd Leno, who could also make his first start on Tyneside.
