Defender’s Arsenal move to be confirmed next month despite deal being agreed

Arsenal are expecting Borussia Dortmund to delay Sokratis Papastathopoulos’s move to the Emirates until next month, according to Kicker.

The report claims that the Bundesliga side do not want the deal confirmed until the new financial year, which starts in the beginning of July.

The player is widely expected to join the club this summer after reports all-but confirmed a £16 million deal had been struck.

The report does suggest that Arsenal are not worried about the news and expect the player to join the club, with some claiming a medical has already been completed.

Greece are not at this summer’s World Cup and the Gunners are expecting Sokratis to feature in the International Champions Cup during pre-season.

Sokratis will become the third Borussia Dortmund player to join the club since Sven Mislintat’s arrival.

He will follow both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined from Manchester United during the January transfer window.
