Arsenal transfer news: Gunners target Brazilian teenager Eduardo Pape

Eduardo Pape

Arsenal are increasing their interest in Cruzeiro youngster Eduardo Pape.

Despite the fact he has yet to play for the senior side in Brazil, the 17-year-old has attracted interest from a number of clubs. It is understood that Arsenal is keeping an eye on the youngster. Newcastle United and Bayern Munich are also linked with the midfielder.

The move could be a good fit with the Gunners liking to identify young talent early on. However, Pape is still very much in the early stages of his career, and any move would be seen as an investment into his future.

Arsenal face competition for Cruzeiro prospect

Arsenal are reportedly targeting Pape as a potential signing in 2027. The teenager is valued at around £33m.

Pape has already had previous experience playing for Cruzeiro’s Under-20s. He’s played 32 times and scored three goals and three assists.

He has left a successful headline in junior football as well. Pape has netted six goals in eight matches and strives for a place in the Brazilian U17 World Cup squad.

The tournament gives an opportunity to demonstrate his skills. The scouts will closely monitor the tournament, so any team interested in the player will be able to see his progress.

Of course, not just Arsenal would want to sign him. Clubs like Newcastle and Bayern Munich have already expressed interest in securing him. This is likely to cause a competitive atmosphere.

Why Pape could suit Arsenal’s recruitment strategy

There is a concern that there hasn’t been any senior-level play from Pape. As he has never played first-team football before. It will be difficult to see how he will adapt to playing in Europe.

The contract is until December 2029, meaning Cruzeiro are in a strong position. There isn’t a huge need for the Brazilian club to rush into any decisions, meaning Pape can get some experience in a comfortable environment before moving abroad.

However, they have been very successful in the past at bringing in young Brazilian players. Gabriel Martinelli was brought in from Ituano as a teenager and has become an important first team player.

It gives us an insight into what Pape could hope to achieve.

It shows that Arsenal are looking further ahead with their recruitment. Whether they make a move for him remains to be seen. Pape will be one to keep an eye on as we approach the 2027 transfer window.
