Arsenal agree fee with Borussia Dortmund over defender deal
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over a deal to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer.
The Gunners have been on the lookout for an experienced central defender and according to claims from the Telegraph, the club have agreed a deal worth £16m with Dortmund for Sokratis.
Unai Emery has already seen Stephan Lichtsteiner join the club on a free transfer from Juventus and it seems Sokratis will be the second man through the door at the Emirates.
The Greek international is being recruited with the view of slotting into the first-team to help remedy Arsenal’s recent defensive woes.
Shkodran Mustafi’s considerably unimpressive displays last season along with Laurent Koscielny’s injury troubles appear to have prompted the Gunners to move quickly to land the 29-year-old defender.
It’s stated that the deal for Sokratis will not be officially confirmed until the start of next month, but it seems Arsenal have all but secured the defender’s services for a fee of £16m.
