Arsenal will reportedly refuse to sanction Gabriel Martinelli’s departure until they sign another left-sided attacker, amid fresh claims that Galatasaray have submitted a £34million bid for the Brazilian.

The Turkish champions have stepped up their interest in Martinelli after identifying the 25-year-old as an alternative to AC Milan winger Rafael Leao.

Reports in Turkey claim an offer worth around £34m has now been made, although Arsenal are in no rush to sell.

GOAL reports that the Gunners have made their position clear: Martinelli will not be allowed to leave unless Mikel Arteta first secures another winger.

Gabriel Martinelli transfer takes fresh turn

That represents a clear progression from the situation earlier this month.

ReadArsenal reported on Friday that Galatasaray had placed Martinelli on their shortlist, but no offer had been made at that stage.

The latest reports suggest their interest has now become more serious.

Arsenal’s stance also underlines why another attacking signing remains important before the window closes.

Christos Tzolis has already arrived from Club Brugge and has started regularly on the left during pre-season, but Arteta still wants to improve his attacking options.

ReadArsenal reported on Sunday that Arteta confirmed the club are still looking for further additions if the right opportunity becomes available.

Bradley Barcola and Kenan Yildiz are among the wide players Arsenal have been linked with this summer.

Martinelli has featured from the bench during Arsenal’s recent friendlies and remains under contract until next summer, with the club holding an option for another year.

There is therefore no immediate pressure to accept Galatasaray’s interest.

The situation could change quickly, however, if Arsenal secure another leading left winger before the transfer window closes.
