Arsenal push to seal stunning Julián Álvarez deal before pre-season

Arsenal are reportedly attempting to complete an ambitious deal for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez before the start of pre-season.

According to Miguel Delaney, Álvarez remains Mikel Arteta’s main attacking target and is open to moving to the Emirates Stadium.

The Argentina international had preferred to remain in Spain, with Barcelona or Real Madrid viewed as his ideal destinations.

However, political complications have reportedly reduced the number of realistic options available to the forward. That development could give Arsenal a clearer route into negotiations.

Barcelona’s financial position presents an obvious obstacle, while Atlético would be reluctant to sell one of their most important players to a direct La Liga rival.

Arsenal face major Álvarez fee decision

Arsenal have explored other attacking targets because a deal for Álvarez initially appeared too difficult to complete.

The main obstacle remains the difference between the clubs’ valuations.

Arsenal reportedly do not want to pay more than £90million, while Atlético are seeking a fee north of £100m. The Gunners must either negotiate a compromise or reconsider their ceiling to secure Arteta’s preferred forward.

Álvarez’s willingness to consider Arsenal strengthens their position, although agreeing personal terms is unlikely to be the most difficult part of the transfer.

Atlético manager Diego Simeone previously made his desire to retain the striker clear. ReadArsenal covered Simeone’s firm Julián Álvarez transfer message as speculation around Barcelona and Arsenal continued earlier this month.

The 26-year-old would offer Arteta several options across the front line. Álvarez can lead the attack, operate behind another striker or move into wider areas.

He also has Premier League experience from his time at Manchester City and understands the physical and tactical demands of English football.

Arsenal’s reported urgency suggests the club now believe a deal has become more realistic. Completing the move before pre-season would allow Álvarez to begin working with Arteta immediately.

The decisive issue remains whether Arsenal are prepared to move closer to Atlético’s valuation for their leading attacking target.
