Declan Rice has been named as England’s vice-captain by Thomas Tuchel just days before the 2026 World Cup.

Rice was terrific for Arsenal last season but what stood out about the 27-year-old is his leadership as he barked orders at his teammates and led by example by stepping up time and again.

Thomas Tuchel’s squad selection screams Arsenal as he has picked a roster full of physically gifted players who could thrive in set-piece situations.

Having followed the Gunners’ ascent prompted him to hand the midfielder more responsibility during the tournament.

Arsenal fans were over the moon about the news on X.

One Arsenal fan expressed his delight for Rice, writing: “Pleased for Declan Rice. A worthy vice-captain and the next in line to lead his country whenever Harry Kane’s time comes to its end.”

There has been debate about whether Bruno Fernandes outperformed Rice last season among other players but another supporter shut that down by congratulating the Englishman: “Well deserved, best player in the Prem [Premier League] this season.”

A third fan simply wrote: “Deccers”, followed by three ‘raised hands emojis.’

Another supporter has seemingly always backed the former West Ham skipper to captain the Three Lions, writing: “One step closer for my boy.”

A fifth Arsenal fan was buzzing for Rice as well, reacting: “Full body chills.”

With Arsenal planning to extend Rice’s contract as well, it seems like life is as good as it gets for the Gunners star currently.
