Arsenal’s latest victory against Fulham piled on the pressure on their Premier League title rivals Manchester City for two reasons.
Firstly, because Mikel Arteta’s side are now six points clear at the top of the league table, having played two more games than City. Secondly, due to boosting their goal difference to 41 while Manchester City’s stands at 37.
Arsenal were brilliant against Fulham and put in the type of dominant display that could help them kick on and win the league. As things stand, if Arsenal win every league game, they will become Premier League champions unless Manchester City keep pace with them and beat them on goal difference.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Gary Neville podcast, Jamie Carragher revealed how he reckons the City players must have reacted to the Gunners’ statement win.

Jamie Carragher: Man City would’ve been ‘over the moon’ about Arsenal vs Fulham scoreline
Carragher felt that if Manchester City were told at half-time that the scoreline would remain 3-0 between Arsenal and Fulham, they would have been delighted.
The Liverpool legend believes that the Gunners looked set to seal the potential battle on goal difference between both sides at the end of the season in the second half.
Jamie Carragher believes that had Arsenal won by five or six goals, Manchester City would not have been able to bridge the gap as far as goal difference is concerned.
“It was just interesting because I think Man City, if you’d have said to them at half-time this game’s going to finish 3-0, they’d have been absolutely over the moon.
“Because as I said in that first half, it looked like it could be five or six and that would’ve been a mighty, sort of big blow for City. And something they wouldn’t have been able to get by.”
Man City’s last five results against Everton
Mikel Arteta will watch Manchester City face Everton and even if Arsenal’s title rivals end up winning, he will be hoping they do so by a tight margin.
Interestingly, City are yet to beat the Toffees by more than a two-goal margin in their past five meetings.
- Manchester City 2-0 Everton
- Everton 0-2 Manchester City
- Manchester City 1-1 Everton
- Manchester City 2-0 Everton
- Everton 1-3 Manchester City
Based on recent results between the two sides, Pep Guardiola’s men will not be in for an easy ride.
Furthermore, they will be playing their first-ever game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. Whether Arsenal end up regretting not scoring even once in the second 45 after being 3-0 in the first remains to be seen.
