Eberechi Eze was the match-winner for Arsenal in their latest 1-0 win against Newcastle United, as he scored an absolute belter from outside the box.
Eze’s display against Newcastle stood out and much like in previous seasons for Crystal Palace, he looks like the man to step up to plate during the business end of the season.
Mikel Arteta would be hoping that the Englishman comes up clutch until the end of the campaign and leads his side to the Premier League title.
As Eze stole the headlines against Newcastle, Gary Lineker heaped praise on his mentality after watching his post-match interview.
Gary Lineker says Eberechi Eze looked relaxed after Arsenal vs Newcastle
Lineker initially lauded Eze on The Rest Is Football podcast for his “gorgeous finish” that led Arsenal to a much-needed win against Newcastle.
However, the veteran also pinpointed how relaxed the FA Cup winner looked in the aftermath of the contest, which is exactly the mindset one should have in a title race.
Gary Lineker said: “I think you have to give Eze a lot of credit because that was a gorgeous finish. He looks like and I saw him in his post-match interview and he’s so relaxed and you just think to yourself, maybe put him in charge of what’s going on at the end of the season.”
“He said it, ‘No, I’m not nervous, I just love playing football, it’s great, you want to be in this position,’ Absolutely the right attitude!”
“It’s easy to have that attitude when you’ve just bent one in the top corner and a hugely important goal. But I see it, I get that, that’s how they should be.”
Eberechi Eze provides injury update after Arsenal vs Newcastle
Mikel Arteta subbed Eze off against Manchester City, a decision that will especially regret now as the midfielder finally looks like he has settled in an Arsenal shirt.
However, it looks like the 27-year-old could end up being the man to rely on in the title race for the Emirates faithful this campaign. The former Reading attacker had to be taken off as the silky attacker had looked like he had sustained an injury during the contest.
Fortunately for Arsenal, Eze’s injury status was positive according to the man himself. Eze will likely be the first name on his boyhood club’s team sheet against Fulham next and understandably so.
