Arsenal expected to land Youri Tielemans

Arsenal have reportedly been touted to land a transfer deal for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans during the next summer window.

That’s according to a recent report from JuveDipendenza (via Sport Witness), which claims that Serie A club Juventus have very little chance of securing a deal for the Leicester star as it is accepted that he will be joining the Gunners in the summer.

The north London club have been linked with a move for the Belgian in the past, including during the previous summer transfer period.

After initially joining Leicester on a loan deal from AS Monaco back in the 2019 January transfer window, the midfielder became a permanent fixture at the Midlands club in the following summer window.

Having made 171 appearances for the Foxes across all competitions, the 25-year-old has scored 26 goals and supplied 25 assists.

His latest goal came during Leicester’s recent 4-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League last weekend, which was described as “tremendous” by journalist Ben Jacobs on Twitter.

To highlight how impressive he has been for Brendan Rodgers’ side this season in the league, Tielemans has made more live passes that have led to an attempt at goal (27) than any other Leicester player, as well as having the joint-highest number of successful tackles (17) at the club.

Now that it has been reported in Italy that the expectation is that the £120k-per-week midfielder will become a new figure in Mikel Arteta’s squad once the summer transfer window opens for business, this should fill a lot of Arsenal supporters with excitement at potentially seeing an experienced and very talented Premier League player join their ranks.

Bearing in mind how the Leicester figure is set to see his current contract at the King Power Stadium expire at the end of the season, if Arsenal can secure a free transfer for him at that point, this would surely be a brilliant bit of business from them.

matchday.
