Arsenal have reportedly been attempting to secure a new deal for Bukayo Saka, with the Gunners apparently looking to tie down the winger to a long-term contract at the north London club.

On this subject, journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared a post on Twitter with a behind-the-scenes update on this matter.

He said: “Arsenal are still feeling optimistic on Bukayo Saka’s new deal. Talks have been ongoing for months — it’s a top priority for the club. #AFC

“Negotiations will continue in order to reach full agreement.”

Saka’s rise at Arsenal

After making 52 appearances across Arsenal’s under-18 and under-21 sides, during which he scored 22 goals and provided 17 assists, the winger has now made 145 first-team outings for the club across all competitions. In his time in senior club football, the 21-year-old has found the net 28 times and delivered 33 assists.

To highlight how important the Englishman has been for Mikel Arteta this season, Saka has scored four goals and supplied four assists in 10 league appearances. In addition, the attacker has accrued more goal-creating actions (10) than any other Arsenal player, along with the joint-highest number of shot-creating actions (38).

As well as having more carries into the final third of the pitch (24), the England international has also shown how useful he is from a defensive point of view by making more tackles in the attacking third of the pitch (10) than any other Arsenal player.

Great to hear

Taking all this into account, it’s easy to see why the club are so keen to secure a new contract for Saka and keep him at the club for as long as possible, as he is clearly a key figure for Arteta.

Now that Romano has shared this positive update on the matter, this should please everyone connected with Arsenal and increase supporters’ confidence that he will sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium.
