Arsenal secured their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League last night as they beat PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

One player that Mikel Arteta’s side faced in this game is Cody Gakpo, who had previously been linked with a move to north London during the summer transfer window.

Now that the January transfer window is gradually approaching, it seems as though a potential move by the Gunners for the 23-year-old has been a topic of discussion again, particularly amid recent reports continuing to link the Premier League leaders with the Netherlands international.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, journalist Paul Brown said of Gakpo: “Arsenal were certainly capable of signing him in the summer if they wanted to, but they didn’t really pursue it.

“I don’t think it would be one that would be prohibitive in terms of price for them so, if they really wanted him, I think they could make it happen in January.”

In 217 appearances in Eindhoven, the 23-year-old has scored 82 goals and supplied 55 assists across PSV’s senior and youth teams.

Despite not having much of an impact in Thursday’s clash at the Emirates, taking only 34 touches of the ball in 90 minutes and not having even one attempt at goal, the Dutchman has been in inspired form this season.

For example, across his 10 Eredivisie games this season, Gakpo has scored nine goals and delivered seven assists.

In addition, the 23-year-old – who had a reported £35m price tag put on him over the summer – has also had more shots at goal (38) than any other player in the Dutch top flight, along with putting in the third-highest number of crosses in the league (83).

Described by former Arsenal defender Martin Keown as a player who “has everything” in his game, the attacker’s unusually timid display at the Emirates on Thursday shouldn’t deter the Gunners from making a potential January swoop for him, in our view.
