Arsenal have had a strong start to their latest Premier League season, as only Newcastle United (9) have conceded fewer league goals than the Gunners (10).
Despite this, it seems as though the north London club have their eye on strengthening their defence with one player in particular.
According to a recent report from the Evening Standard, Arsenal have identified Eintracht Frankfurt defender, Evan N’Dicka, as a potential target for the upcoming January transfer window.
The report also adds that the Gunners are keen to sign someone that can provide competition for current Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes after missing out on signing the likes of Lisandro Martinez and Calvin Bassey during the previous summer transfer window.
After joining Frankfurt back in the 2018 summer transfer window from his boyhood club, AJ Auxerre, N’Dicka has gone on to make 155 appearances for the German club across all competitions.
In those appearances, the 23-year-old has scored 10 goals and supplied nine assists, showing just how useful the defender can be in front of goal.
Having started all 10 of Frankfurt’s Bundesliga games this season, the Frenchman has shown in those appearances just how much of a very capable defender his is, with and without the ball.
For example, he currently has more clearances (65), blocks (26) and pressures in the defensive third of the pitch (60) than any other player at the club, as well as the second-highest number of interceptions (18).
He also has the highest percentage of successful passes (89.4%) out of any Frankfurt player that has attempted more than 10 passes in the league this season.
Described as an “enormous” player by journalist Christopher Michel, N’Dicka apparently had a reported price tag of up to £17m put on him during the previous summer transfer window.
Moving forward, if this is the sort of money that it may take to sign him during the upcoming January transfer window, then Arsenal should have no doubts over launching a move to bring him to the Emirates.
