Arsenal have been dealt a potential setback to their hopes of securing a future move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
After being linked with a move for the 23-year-old during the previous summer transfer window, it appears as though the forward’s agent has dashed any chance that there may have been of the Gunners making a move for the Nigerian in the near future.
Osimhen’s agent speaks out
Speaking to Kiss Kiss Napoli, Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda had this to say about the player and his future: “It was Victor’s will to stay at Napoli and play the Champions League that he won last year together with his teammates. Victor wanted just that: to have a great year with Napoli, between the league and the Champions League.
“He has a long contract with the blue club. The market is dynamic, but our will is to continue at Napoli and continue to do well.”
Osimhen the “goal machine”
After scoring 18 goals in 38 appearances for his previous club Lille, the £90k-per-week striker joined Napoli in 2020. Since then, the attacker has gone on to find the net 32 times in 70 appearances across all competitions.
In six Serie A appearances this season, Osimhen has scored three goals, delivered one assist and taken more shots at goal (29) than any other Napoli player, showcasing how much of an attacking threat he can offer.
Labelled a “goal machine” by journalist Nizaar Kinsella, the Napoli star would almost certainly enhance Arsenal’s attack and cause a lot of problems for Premier League goalkeepers.
If Arsenal are able to secure a place in the Champions League for next season and potentially pick up some silverware along the way in the 2022/23 campaign, this could help them to become a tempting potential next destination for Osimhen and prompt him to reassess his future in Italy.
