Arsenal moved back to the top of the Premier League table yesterday as Mikel Arteta’s side beat Liverpool 3-2 at the Emirates.
One player for the home side that we feel put in an inspired performance against Jurgen Klopp’s side and caused them a lot of headaches throughout the game is Gabriel Martinelli.
It didn’t take him long to make his mark on the game as the winger opened the scoring before even one minute of action was played.
As well as that, the 21-year-old also assisted Bukayo Saka’s goal that put the Gunners 2-1 up just before halftime, which was one of the two key passes he made in the game.
With 54 touches of the ball in total, the Brazilian also ended up winning three fouls throughout the game, further highlighting just how tricky he was to play against.
This display ultimately earned the winger a solid match rating of 7.6/10 from SofaScore, leaving Saka (8/10) as the only other Arsenal player with a higher rating.
Martinelli earned himself a lot of praise from Football.London, who had this to say about his performance in their player ratings report.
They said: “An absolutely outstanding display from the Brazilian. Scored early and ran Alexander-Arnold and then Joe Gomez absolutely ragged. Arsenal’s biggest and most effective threat on the counter. A performance that truly announced him as one of the best players not just at Arsenal, but in the Premier League.”
Praised for his “phenomenal” performances in the past by Arteta, it could be argued that Martinelli had more of an impact on the game than Saka despite the Englishman scoring Arsenal’s second and third goal of the match.
Moving forward, if the winger continues to deliver performances like this throughout the remainder of the season, he will surely give his side a great chance of being successful and potentially getting their hands on some silverware.
