Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has seen numerous players make their way to the north London club since his appointment as manager back in December 2019.
One player that the Gunners have been linked with extensively in the past that Arteta could now have the chance to finally secure is Houssem Aouar.
A recent report from CMW has named Arsenal as a potential suitor for the midfielder, who the Gunners had a bid rejected for in 2020 after he was reportedly Arteta’s top transfer target.
Having made 243 appearances for Olympique Lyon across their senior and youth sides, the 24-year-old has scored 47 goals and delivered 36 assists along the way.
Last season saw the Frenchman make 45 appearances in total across Ligue 1 and the Europa League, during which he scored eight goals and provided four assists while playing across numerous midfield positions.
This shows the versatility he has and how much of a nuisance he can be for opposition defences.
In fact, Aouar ended his previous league campaign with more carries that entered the final third of the pitch (77) than any other player at the club, further highlighting how tricky he can be to play against.
Hailed as an “outstanding” player by journalist Adam White, Aouar is set to see his current contract at Lyon expire at the end of the season.
This suggests to us that if Arsenal are keen on securing a deal for the player, they could either test the waters in January or see if they can sign him as a free agent in the summer if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal at his current club, finally giving Arteta his dream transfer.
Moving forward, if the Gunners boss wants to add some extra attacking strength and depth to the midfield area of his squad in the near future, launching another move for the Lyon star could be the best way to do it.
