Why a Deal for Dominik Szoboszlai is Better Value for Money than Aouar

RB Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai is being chased by a number of prospective suitors such as Arsenal, as the Hungarian looks set to join a larger European club – and he could prove to be the perfect alternative to another reported summer target.

The 20-year-old has exhibited a range of promising attributes at such a young age and has impressively managed five goals and nine assists in all competitions so far this season.

That tally of 14 goal involvements in 13 games is a formidable snapshot of the Hungarian’s potential, and it is unsurprising that his signature is being coveted across Europe.

In a further boost to the Gunners, transfer guru Edu has reportedly ‘already held talks’ with the young dynamo, who can also play out wide on the left, as the Gunners look to marry his creative threat with summer signing Thomas Partey’s deeper-lying playmaking abilities.

According to Sport Witness, the player’s agent Matyas Esterhazy has had ‘talks with Arsenal and who knows who’. With a reported release clause of just £22.5m, the temptation for the Gunners to sign the in-demand Hungarian could prove to be huge.

Indeed, Szoboszlai’s creativity renders him a preferable option to a far more expensive creative force in reported summer target Houssem Aouar of Lyon.

The Gunners suffered setbacks in their pursuit of Aouar, who was denied a move by the Ligue 1 giants. As a result, a deal in future windows may be off, especially given that the Gunners were preparing to spend more than £40m on him.

In signing Szoboszlai, however, Arsenal could have their cake and eat it. They would be able to inject flair and creativity with the Hungarian in their plans, but at a far lesser cost than that of Aouar. This way, the Gunners could have both Partey and Szoboszlai in a long-term double swoop and hope a strong partnership emerges.

Ultimately, a move for the Hungarian would be a far more shrewd and financially viable option than Aouar to boost the Gunners’ firepower.
