With Liverpool seemingly ready to pay €90m for Dembele, Arsenal could make a clever decision and back out of the race now. Dembele is not consistent enough, in terms of form and availability for Arsenal to justify paying that kind of fee for him when they look set for a season without European football.
Since joining Barcelona in 2017, Dembele has started just 35 league games for Barcelona, including only three this season. According to Transfermarkt, Dembele has missed 60 games for Barcelona through injury alone in the last three seasons.
Dembele is injury-prone and unreliable and that makes Arsenal paying €90m for him a potentially disastrous deal, as they run the risk of shelling out a huge fee for him and then he is never able to play. When he does play, however, he has been impressive for Barcelona, it has to be said. During the 2018/19 campaign, he managed eight goals and five assists in 20 starts, along with a WhoScored rating of 7.25.
Despite his eye-catching performances when fit, he is not able to show them consistently enough – due to injury – and Arsenal should leave Liverpool to keep pursuing the forward.
