Saka could receive England Euros boost following tournament suspension

UEFA announced earlier this week that Euro 2020 has been suspended and will be played in 2021 following the recent outbreak, and that could prove to be a positive thing for promising Arsenal star Bukayo Saka.

The 18-year old winger has impressed for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, albeit largely playing out of position, with some believing that he could soon find himself knocking on England’s door.

Eligible to represent both England and Nigeria, the Arsenal man has played 30 times internationally across various youth levels for the Three Lions, and could potentially find himself in contention next summer if he can continue to maintain his domestic form.

Many players across the continent who were injured and had looked likely to miss the tournament could now benefit from it having moved back another year, but that also provides an opportunity for younger players to prove their mettle and replace the older guard.

Should Saka continue to play and star frequently for Arsenal, with more minutes and more much-needed experience under his belt, there is no saying how close he could come to making Gareth Southgate’s final squad for the continental competition, as either a left-winger or as a left-back.

The teenager may well welcome the 12-month delay, as we think, on the whole, it could seriously benefit the teenager’s possible international future.
