Arsenal to battle Premier League rivals for Bailey

Arsenal are set to face off against Liverpool and Chelsea for Bayer Leverkusen forward Leon Bailey, although Gunners star Gabriel Martinelli could benefit if the Gunners miss out on this occasion.

The 22-year old winger has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and now Chelsea are ready to make a big splash in the transfer market as they line up an £85million move.

That comes from Express Sport, who also say that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are keen to sign the Jamaica international.

Frank Lampard wasn’t able to spend last summer due to a transfer ban for Chelsea, and while it was lifted in January, he still didn’t get any business done.

However after agreeing an early deal to sign Hakim Ziyech last month, the Blues boss is ready to launch an overhaul of his squad, and Bailey is a major target for the former Derby boss.

However, Arsenal could actually benefit long-term if they miss out on Bailey, with the 22-year old likely to hamper the development of Brazilian Martinelli.

Numerous Arsenal fans have called for the 18-year wide forward to start more frequently for the Gunners this season after signing from Ituano in the summer.

In just six Premier League starts, the pacey forward has impressed for the London outfit, although he faces plenty of competition at the Emirates, with Nicolas Pepe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Reiss Nelson and Bukayo Saka all jostling for a starting spot out wide.

While Bailey could be a solid signing as Mikel Arteta continues to build his new-look Arsenal side ahead of next season, the Spaniard could be best served having faith in the young wide talent already in his squad.
