Arsenal given boost as Barcelona prefer Lautaro to Aubameyang

Arsenal may have been given a boost ahead of next season as Barcelona have designated Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as their secondary option to provide competition for Luis Suarez.

The Catalan giants are on the hunt for another forward who can support and provide competition for Suarez next season, with Antoine Griezmann preferred out wide, and according to Sport, they are considering other targets before the Gabon international.

Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez is believed to be the club’s primary target, according to Sport, although Aubameyang is expected to be the cheaper option.

This could prove to be hugely beneficial to Arsenal, who would prefer not to lose the 30-year old striker, with Aubameyang integral to Mikel Arteta’s plans. However, they could be open to selling if the interest is there, with the forward entering the final 12 months of his contract.

Lautaro is just 22-years old, eight years Aubameyang’s junior, and that has seemingly proved to be a big selling point for the Argentine over the Arsenal striker, according to Sport.

While Sport also claim that a Barcelona move for Lautaro could see Aubameyang join Inter Milan, the Gunners will surely be buoyed if the Catalonian outfit turn their attention away from their star frontman.

With Arteta set to launch an overhaul of the squad following the end of this campaign, his side will have received a huge boost if Aubameyang is ready to play and contribute next season.
