Arsenal join the race for Liverpool outcast Lovren

Arsenal are interested in signing Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren, according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, with Mikel Arteta apparently on the hunt for a new centre-back.

Lazio have emerged as prime candidates to sign the Croatia international, as reported by La Lazio Siamo Noi, with the defender likely to leave Liverpool following the end of this season.

The 30-year-old has fallen behind Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the pecking order on Merseyside, and it has already been reported that the Reds could allow Lovren to leave the club at the end of the season.

Now the Italian outlet report that Lazio are keen, while Arsenal and Tottenham have also been named as interested parties, alongside AC Milan and Lyon.

It has been claimed that Arteta wants to sign another centre-back this summer, with Shkodran Mustafi’s future up in the air and with Sokratis likely on the way out at the Emirates.

With Liverpool fans having slammed Lovren on several occasions throughout the season, Arsenal could likely do better in the transfer market, especially considering the calibre of alternatives that they are said to be keen on.

The Gunners have been linked with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and West Ham’s Issa Diop in recent weeks, and either of the duo could represent better and more sensible options that Lovren, who has repeatedly failed to impress for the Reds this season.
