Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has dropped a hint over where his future could lie, following an interview with the Gunners, although it should taken with a pinch of salt for the time being.
The Gabon international’s future has been up in the air for the past few months, with the forward having now entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Emirates.
With Arsenal unlikely to qualify for the Champions League once again this season, the 30-year old forward could look to leave North London this summer in search of better continental competition.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund man’s recent comments may have given some supporters hope that he could elect to remain with the club. Talking to the club’s official website, Auba said:
It means a lot (to play here).
When I was younger I used to watch Arsenal because they always had great players and they won trophies as well.
I think it is really a pleasure to be here, I am really happy- that’s my feeling.
It could be too early to perceive whether Arsenal could face significant interest for the striker in the summer, but his comments could be seen as a positive sign by supporters who are keen to see him remain an Arsenal player beyond the end of this season.
Arsenal are going through a transitional period under Mikel Arteta, with the Spaniard yet to fully impose his ideas onto his squad, while he will need another transfer window to continue bringing in his own players.
While Aubameyang could focus on Arsenal’s lack of Champions League football, the club also represent an exciting project that is in a rebuild process, which could also represent an exciting challenge for the 30-year old.
However, given his age, Auba could decide that he only has a few more years of Champions League football in him, and so could use that as the basis for his departure from the club this summer.
As such, Arsenal fans should be wary that Aubameyang’s comments about the club don’t necessarily indicate that he will certainly pen a new deal in North London. It could yet be a false promise that could see him leave for greener pastures.
