Arsenal players wanted Ancelotti instead of Arteta

While Mikel Arteta appears to be on the verge of being named the new Arsenal boss, it seems that Carlo Ancelotti was the man that the club’s players wanted to see in the dugout.

The Mirror, as cited on the Express, claims that Ancelotti was the manager that the Gunners squad were hoping to see appointed following Emery’s dismissal.

Ancelotti now appears to be closing in on the Everton job after leaving Napoli recently.

Known for his man-management, it’s easy to see why the chance of working under Ancelotti would appeal to the players.

The report cites his experience as a key factor for the players who wanted to see the Italian takeover.

While Ancelotti does have more experience under his belt when compared to someone like Arteta, the latter could be the man that galvanises the club and develops an identity.

The Spaniard knows everything about the Gunners and will be adored by fans. Not to mention the fact he’s worked under Pep Guardiola’s wing at Manchester City.

When you see how Ancelotti’s spells at Bayern Munich and Napoli unfolded, it’s easy to see why the Italian may not have been as equally popular with the Arsenal board as he clearly was with the players.
