Harry Maguire, Wilfried Zaha and Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey were among three of Unai Emery’s key transfer targets before his Arsenal dismissal.
According to The Atheltic, Emery had identified three key targets over the summer in a bid to strengthen his squad at the Emirates.
However, after going into the window with a limited transfer budget, the Spaniard was unable to land any of the three players.
Zaha and Partey both stayed at their respective clubs, while Maguire went on to join Manchester United in a big-money deal from Leicester.

You only have to look at how Arsenal’s season has unfolded and where things have gone wrong to see how important these transfers could’ve been to the club’s current predicament.
The Gunners have looked fragile at the back, they’ve lacked leadership and organisation. Maguire has added both of those things to the Manchester United squad almost instantly.
In midfield, the struggles of both Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira this season highlight the need for reinforcement in that area. Partey would’ve added some much-needed quality and then some.

Finally, when you see how Nicolas Pepe has struggled to adapt to the English game – the Gunners wouldn’t have had such a problem with Wilfried Zaha.
While Pepe may be the better long term option, having Zaha’s Premier League experience right now would’ve been very helpful.
