Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood believes Arsenal signed the wrong defender from Chelsea over the summer.
Speaking to Premier League Productions, as cited on the Daily Star, Sherwood explains that Gary Cahill would’ve been a far better signing for the Gunners compared to David Luiz.
Gary Cahill, he was an obvious choice. We’re talking about someone who’s a Premier League winner, a leader-type character, and they end up going and getting David Luiz.
Cahill left Chelsea last summer at the end of his contract and joined Palace on a free transfer, while Arsenal paid around £8 million to bring in Luiz from their London rivals.

Since joining Palace, Cahill has impressed in the Premier League, earning plenty of plaudits for the role he has had on Roy Hodgson’s side.
He has helped them to ninth in the Premier League, just two points behind Arsenal in fifth place.
Of course, we’ll never know if Cahill would’ve had a similar impact at Arsenal, but you can see the reasoning as to why the Gunners opted with Luiz instead.
He may have been the more expensive option out of the two, but he is a player that Unai Emery has worked with before.
Like Cahill, he also boasts leadership qualities from his time at Chelsea and joined the Gunners looking to make an impact.
Signing Cahill on a short-term deal may not have been the worst idea, but you won’t see too many fans complaining about Luiz’s arrival.
