Unai Emery has confirmed that Granit Xhaka will no longer be the club’s captain.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been announced as the new permanent captain of the Gunners, with Xhaka being removed from Emery’s ‘group of captains’.
It was a decision many expected to happen after his actions against Crystal Palace and these Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting to the news.

Emery was always going to be in a tricky position when it came to deciding Xhaka’s role in the squad going forward.
Clearly he is a player that Emery had previously thought highly of, but the Arsenal boss has to not only protect the player publically but also show his authority within the squad.
A decision needed to be made and by replacing Xhaka as the captain, Emery will be hoping the club can move on from the incident and get back on track for a top-four finish.
