Winterburn wants to see Patrick Vieira replace Unai Emery

Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira should be the man to replace Unai Emery at the Emirates, according to former defender Nigel Winterburn.

Currently in charge of OGC Nice in Ligue 1, Vieira is quietly making a name for himself as a manager after a spell in the MLS.

Speaking to Gambling.com, as cited on the Mirror, Winterburn explains that the Frenchman would be a good fit.

I would say keep an eye on what’s happening with Patrick Viera. If someone like that could prove they are able to run a club in the right way, then Arsenal may look towards that eventually.

Vieira was interviewed for the Arsenal job before the club decided to appoint Emery.

Reasons for why he wasn’t handed the job in the first place remain unclear, but it shows that the Gunners are more than aware of what he is doing in France.

He has impressed with the job he has done with Nice and has also been linked with a number of other roles during in time in Ligue 1.

Bringing back a club legend into the dugout has become an increasingly popular move with clubs, to varying degrees of success. Arsenal would certainly be getting fans back on board by bringing someone like Patrick Vieira in.

If he could install some of the heart and desire that he showed as a player into this Arsenal team, the Gunners would reap the rewards.
