Kovac plays down Muller comments amid Arsenal links – the Gunners need to move on from this

Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac has been forced to take back his comments about Thomas Muller’s future, amid links to both Man United and Arsenal.

Muller has been on the fringes of the Bayern team this season, resulting in transfer links to the Premier League.

However, as reported by Goal, the Bayern boss has admitted he made a mistake about his previous comments, playing down any suggestions of an imminent move away:

I incorrectly articulated my thoughts, but I disproved my own statement with the fact Thomas has been coming [into matches] recently. I spoke with Thomas the next day, everything was cleared up and he understood it the way I meant it, so I made a mistake – it happens to me too, that’s life.

We talked about it, but no matter which player it is, everyone who doesn’t play is unhappy. I have to make decisions as a coach and I can’t start more than 11 players, I have to find the team I think can win the game.

Arsenal fans better not have got their hopes up about a potential move to sign Muller.

These latest comments seem to suggest it really was nothing more than a ploy to put a bit of pressure on Kovac, with Muller still watching on from the sidelines.

Of course, it would be great to see a player of his pedigree one day play in the Premier League, but at the same time, it is hard to envisage him ever leaving Bayern Munich – especially at this stage in his career.

For Arsenal, it’ll now be about moving on to other attacking targets, with Unai Emery still keen to strengthen his squad.
