Khedira spotted at the Emirates – should Arsenal sign him?

Juventus midfielder Sami Khedira has been linked with a move to Arsenal recently, and he was spotted watching the team’s fixture against Lyon at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Should the club secure a deal for the German?

Khedira was pictured looking on from the stands as Unai Emery’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Emirates Cup. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring, but a Moussa Dembele brace saw the visitors come out on top.

The former Real Madrid star’s appearance in North London was somewhat unexpected, and it would be easy to get carried away, suggesting that a transfer could be on the cards. So, if he were to sign, would the midfielder be a good addition?

Khedira had a difficult time in Turin last season and does not appear to be in the plans of new Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri. Aaron Ramsey’s arrival, along with the manager’s desire to play a regista-style player in the sitting midfield role, seems to have sealed his fate at the club.

However, one European giants’ loss could be another’s gain, and recruiting a player of Khedira’s standard would certainly do Arsenal no harm as they continue to prepare for the 2019/20 campaign.

The Gunners have plenty of options at their disposal in the middle of the park, but a perfect balance was not exactly struck up last term, as Emery experimented with a double pivot including two of Matteo Guendouzi, Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira.

Khedira would provide Arsenal with some much-needed experience and composure in the middle. Although he is approaching the twilight years of his career, his big-game know-how would prove useful, and if a deal is in the offing, it could be a smart, low-cost acquisition from the club.
