Arsenal player ratings: Newcastle (H)

Arsenal keep their fantastic home form going with a routine 2-0 victory over Newcastle United to jump to third place in the league table.

Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette were the scorers in either half that orchestrated a rather comfortable night for the Gunners.

Just as the home side thought they had taken the lead through Ramsey’s clever finish in the 13th minute, the referee blew his whistle to deny the goal.

However, the Welshman wasn’t to be denied 17 minutes later, when he was somehow found by Lacazette and the first-time finish towards the bottom corner was impressive.

Arsenal must have thought they had doubled the lead when Matt Ritchie blocked Lacazette’s goal-bound on the line.

They eventually put the game to bed seven minutes from time, after some good interplay between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Lacazette. The ball ended into the path of the latter to dink it past the Newcastle keeper.

All in all, a satisfying night’s work for Unai Emery’s men, who are now third in the table and above Tottenham.
