Arsenal’s hopes of completing a deal to sign Hector Herrera from FC Porto this month have taken a blow, with his agent dismissing rumours linking him with a mid-season exit.
The Mexican international has been reportedly identified as a transfer target by the Gunners, who may need to replace Aaron Ramsey as he continues to be touted with a switch to Juventus.
However, it seems a January move for Herrera will be implausible, with his representative Gabriel Moraes refuting claims that he will depart Portugal this month.
Speaking to A Bola, as cited in a report from Football Italia, the agent dismissed speculation linking his client with a switch to Serie A and also ruled out any chance of the player being immediately close to a move. He said:
Herrera hasn’t ruled out staying with Porto. There were talks with President Pinto da Costa, so anything can happen. Nothing that’s been written or said in the last few days is true.
Hector hasn’t negotiated with any club, neither with Inter, Roma nor Milan like people have said.
What’s certain is that Hector won’t leave Porto this month. He wants to win more trophies with the club and that’s all he’s thinking about.
Herrera is understood to be a target for numerous clubs from across Europe as his contractual situation at Porto continues to be scrutinised.
