No team has won the FA Cup more times than Arsenal. The Gunners have lifted the famous trophy 13 times and have a very good record in the competition in recent seasons.
Under Arsene Wenger, Arsenal won three of the last five FA Cup finals and their quest to win another will begin at Bloomfield Road on January 5th.
The Gunners will face League One side Blackpool in the third round of the cup, in what will be Unai Emery‘s first taste of managing a side in the famous competition.
The two sides will know each other well, having been drawn against each other in the League Cup fourth round earlier in the season. A much changed Arsenal side won that game 2-1 thanks to goals from the experienced Stephan Lichtsteiner and youngster Emile Smith Rowe.
Emery is likely to rotate his side heavily once again after a busy Christmas period that included three games in a week against Brighton, Liverpool and Fulham.
There have been plenty of giant killings in the FA Cup in years gone by but the bookmakers are not expecting to see one in Blackpool. If you check the FA Cup betting odds at 888sport, you’ll see that Arsenal, despite the fact that they are expected to play a weakened side, are huge favourites to win the game.
It will be interesting to see the team that Terry McPhillips picks for the tie. His Blackpool side also played a lot games in a short period of time and with The Tangerines hoping to secure a playoff spot, he could decide to make a few changes too, making the league a priority.
Either way, Bloomfield Road is likely to be rocking for an evening game which is being shown live on TV so Arsenal, even if the team is very different to the side Emery will usual select for league games, will need to be professional and on their game if they want to ensure the they doing become another side who’ve been knocked out by a lower league side in the FA Cup third round.
