Arsenal receive boost in potential bid to sign Eric Bailly

Manchester United will allow Arsenal transfer target Eric Bailly to leave in January, report the Telegraph.

The Gunners have been linked with signing the centre-back in recent months, as Unai Emery looks to bring new faces into his back-line.

Bailly has fallen completely out of favour under Jose Mourinho, not even making the matchday squad in Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

His last appearance came against Newcastle in early October, when he was substituted after just 19 minutes.

Arsenal are not the only side thought to be keeping tabs on the situation, with north London rivals Tottenham also in the running for his signature.

Bailly arrived at United with a big reputation in 2016, with many seeing him as a key defender for years to come.

His performances have proved erratic, though, and his relationship with Mourinho appears to have soured.

The Ivory Coast international is still just 24 years of age, however, and he has the ability to be a good buy for Arsenal.

Emery’s side have not always looked assured defensively this season, conceding 15 goals in 12 Premier League games, and are in need of reinforcements in that area.

A January swoop could benefit all parties.
