Arsenal are reportedly ready to firm up their interest in FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera ahead of a summer move.
The Mexican international is out of contract with the Portuguese giants at the end of the season, meaning that interested parties will be able to secure a pre-contract agreement with the player ahead of a free transfer in the summer.
Arsenal have been linked with signing the midfielder in recent times and according to claims from Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by Inside Futbol, they are “laying the groundwork” as they prepare to make their move.

The Gunners will undoubtedly face competition in their pursuit of the 28-year-old, however. Serie A giants Inter Milan have been previously linked, whilst Crystal Palace and Watford are named as potential destinations in Gazzetta’s recent report.
Herrera, who remains the captain of Porto, has been a key player for his side over the years but now looks set to seek pastures new.
Arsenal may well be on the lookout for a new central midfield player to arrive ahead of next season, with Aaron Ramsey’s contract at the club likely to run down.
