Stan Collymore believes that Arsenal should sell Mesut Ozil

Former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes that Arsenal should consider selling Mesut Ozil as he is a luxury player that they simply cannot afford right now.

Ozil struggled in the opening two matches of the Premier League season against Manchester City and Chelsea, and he supposedly had an argument with new manager Unai Emery when he was asked to play in a new role against West Ham at the weekend.

When asked to elaborate on his thoughts, Collymore said:

Arsenal should let Mesut Ozil go at the end of the season because he is not the soldier Unai Emery is going to need. He requires more than technique from Ozil. Emery needs grinders and grafters. Players with less technique than him but more energy, heart and spirit. Ozil has coasted for the last two to three years and so have Arsenal. But Emery will have no intention of doing the same. They should sit down with him, shake his hand and tell him he is a cracking player, but also a luxury player that Arsenal cannot afford right now.

However, Ozil recently signed a huge contract worth a reported £350,000 per week to prevent him from leaving the club for free, so getting rid of him might just prove to be easier said than done.
