Club desperate to keep star midfielder – despite holding talks with Emery

Sevilla are doing all they can to keep Argentinian midfielder Ever Banega at the club this summer, amid interest from Arsenal.

The Independent claims that sources at the club remain hopeful about their chances of convincing him to stay at the club beyond the transfer window.

Some reports have gone as far as suggesting the new Arsenal boss Unai Emery has personally spoken to the player. Banega is a player that Emery will know well through his time with Sevilla and wants to bring him to the Emirates.

The player is said to have a £18 million release clause in his contract, something Arsenal are considering activating.

Banega’s long-term future with Sevilla has been thrown into question following some changes behind the scenes at the club, while they also failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

However, the 29-year-old was ever present for Sevilla last season and officials at the club maintain that he is still a key figure within their squad.
