Arsenal agree deal with Arteta
Mikel Arteta has agreed a deal in principle to become Arsenal’s new manager.
Goal report that nothing has been signed yet, but it will be announced within the next week.
Arteta is set to take charge following a major shakeup at the club, with the biggest being the departure of Arsene Wenger after 22 years in charge.
Five other members of staff have also left the Emirates, with assistant manager Steve Bould also coming under pressure as it is expected Arteta will want to bring in his own backroom staff.
The Spaniard played for Arsenal from 2011 until his retirement two years ago, and has been assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City ever since.
His tactics and style will bring a fresh look to Arsenal as they try to get back into the Champions League and battle for the Premier League again.
It may be a risk to appoint the 36-year-old, but he captained the Gunners for two years and was influential in helping City break numerous records this season as they finished on 100 points.
Luis Enrique and Massimiliano Allegri were the original favourites for the job, with recommendations putting them off Enrique while Allegri committed his future to Juventus.
