Arsenal lining up moves for three defenders this summer

Arsenal are looking to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos, plus two other centre-backs, in an attempt to strengthen a leaky backline, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners have conceded over 50 goals this season and with their first choice centre-back Laurent Koscienly now injured for the long-term, defensive recruits this summer are vital.

The three defenders Arsenal are currently looking at bringing to the Emirates are previously mentioned Sokratis, West Brom’s Jonny Evans and Turkish international Caglar Soyuncu.

Greek defender Sokratis is reported to cost around £15 million, however, the deal may be easier to do with the head of recruitment, Sven Misinlat, being a friend of the Greek international.

Gunners chiefs have made moves for Jonny Evans in the past, offering big money to West Brom, but the Northern Irishman is now available for just £3 million and could be an easy deal to complete.

The North London club have already held talks with Soyuncu of FC Freiburg and he would be another good addition to a backline which could see Shkodran Mustafa leave this summer.
