Arsenal to swoop for Juventus defender as replacement for Mustafi

Arsene Wenger has shortlisted Italian centre back Daniele Rugani as one his top Summer targets, according to reports.

Having not picked up an away point in 2018, Wenger is keen to strengthen his frail backline and he looks to have found the answer in the 23-year-old.

Per Mertesacker has announced he will be retiring at the end of this season and with Shkodran Mustafa failing to impress, this is a key position for the Gunners to improve this coming window.

Rugani is a two time Serie A winner and was also named as one of the defenders in the 2015 Serie A Team of the Year.

An article by TransferMarketWeb explains that the young defender is unhappy at Juventus and could be edging for a move.

There were rumours of Arsenal making a move for Rugani in January, however a formal bid never materialised.

The Italian still has three years remaining on his deal, meaning it could take a sizeable fee to lure him to North London.
