Arsenal must resolve Sanchez and Ozil futures before January

Arsenal must resolve Sanchez and Ozil futures before January

As we approach the January transfer window, we are still no closer to finding a resolution to the Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez contract situations.

The pair, who are two of Arsenal’s most expensive players in their history, are set to become free agents at the end of the season when their contracts expire and Arsenal, despite their best efforts, have been unable to persuade them to pen improved terms.

With this saga looming over the Emirates, Arsenal are left in a state of limbo where they can’t adequately plan for the future without knowing the intentions of their two most valuable assets.

With every passing day, it seems increasingly likely that they will both be leaving the club, whether that be in January or at the end of the season, and should that be the case then the Gunners should take matters into their own hands and cut their losses during next month’s transfer window.

In the case of Alexis Sanchez, the writing has been on the wall for some time.

It appeared as if Arsenal came to terms with the fact that they were losing Sanchez back in the summer which prompted Manchester City to desperately attempt to push through a £60m deal on transfer deadline day, only for it to fall through when the Gunners were unable to draft in Monaco’s Thomas Lemar as a replacement.

Sanchez stayed at Arsenal much to his chagrin but has still been committed to the club on the field, despite his goal return not being what we are used to. Manchester City are expected to try again for Sanchez when the transfer window opens, and you can visit William hill review for the best transfer window market.

With Mesut Ozil, it always seemed like the German would be the more likely of the two to stay at the club, should Arsenal cave in and meet his extortionate demands.

However, with less than two weeks to go until January window opens and teams can open pre-contract negotiations with the likes of Ozil and Sanchez, it does appear as if a compromise over wages with the World Cup winner is not going to be reached.

Manchester United, Barcelona and Inter Milan have all been strongly linked with moves for the playmaker who remains an integral part of the Arsenal side.

Should Arsenal lose both players, then it sets them back several years in terms of their progress to once again becoming Premier League champions as both players were brought in as world class options to help Arsenal bridge the gap between themselves as the elite.

Arsenal need to make a decision between now and January as to what they’re going to do with Ozil and Sanchez. It’s no good having players that you know won’t be part of the long-term future of the club. It would be beneficial for all involved to bring in players who have bought in and not checked out.
