Arsenal scout watches Uruguay stars in action

Like many teams, Arsenal deployed their scouts during the international break to make checks on some of their transfer targets and this week they were present for Austria’s 2-1 win over Uruguay.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, Arsenal are doing their homework on potential signings, but who were they looking at during the game?

The Gunners in recent times have been linked with three of Uruguay’s best up and coming prospects – Federico Valverde, Rodrigo Bentancur and Jose Maria Gimenez.

Valverde is a highly-rated 19-year-old attacking midfielder who joined Real Madrid last summer for €5m from Uruguayan side Penarol. He’s caught the eye on loan with Deportivo this season and made his international debut back in September.

20-year-old Bentancur only moved to Europe this past summer with Juventus, arriving in a €10.5m deal from Boca Juniors. The midfielder made his international debut last month after making a hot start in Turin.

The most know name of the three is Jose Gimenez. The Atletico Madrid centre-back has been a regular for club and country over the last 18 months or so and becomes a free agent next summer when his contract expires. The 22-year-old has also been linked with Liverpool.
