Wenger confirms Arsenal may sell Sanchez and Ozil

Arsenal resisted temptation and vast sums of money in the summer and decided not to sell either Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil in the summer transfer window despite their respective contracts expiring at the end of the season.

The hope is that the pair will flip on their current stance and sign new long-term deals to stay at the Emirates but as more time passes, it’s becoming increasingly evident that they aren’t going to do so.

So that puts Arsenal in a difficult situation, do they sell the players in January and secure a top fee, or let their contracts wind down and watch them walk for free at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger has acknowledged that situation and has admitted it’s possible the pair could be sold once the January transfer window opens up.

Once you are in our kind of situation we have envisaged every kind of solution yes, it’s possible [we could sell both Sanchez and Ozil].

That’s my understanding, I always said that the fact that we didn’t find an agreement last year doesn’t mean the player will necessarily leave. Both players look happy here and overall I hope that the situation can be turned around. At the moment, we are not close enough to announce anything.

The pair are undoubtedly Arsenal’s best talents and most influential performers and losing them either in January or next summer will only widen the gap between the Gunners and the elite Premier League clubs.
